On 09/09/2020, we co-hosted another webinar with Park Slope Parents. This time, Dr. Sam Jeannite spoke about how to manage the anxiety that stems from having to make decisions. As parents, we’re called upon to make many decisions for our families, and many of them feel dire, especially in the time of COVID. Sam helped attendees distinguish between what we can control and what we cannot and to establish a general framework for how to think about difficult decisions. He also gave some helpful strategies for how to cope with anxiety in general.

Parents are stuck between a rock and a hard place right now: Will you send your young ones to daycare or preschool in person? Will you hire a babysitter? Will you visit your parents? Will you set up playdates? There are no right answers, and each of these decisions brings on a new risk calculus and a surge of doubt. Dr. Sam’s workshop helped parents manage their anxiety in the face of such uncertainty.

The workshop provided parents with:

  1. Evidence-based, practical strategies for managing parent anxiety during the Coronavirus crisis and beyond.
  2. A checklist to help measure anxiety and provide important insight for the decision-making process.
  3. Help in tolerating the ambiguity of our times.
  4. Making space for their own compassionate self-care.
